The elegance of afternoon tea in an authentic 15th century Irish Castle really has to be experienced to be believed. That is why we are delighted to announce that our hugely popular Festive Afternoon Tea will return this December. Embracing the essence of one of our Castle Bedrooms, this year's afternoon tea theme is inspired by the elegant Duchess of Cumberland.
We invite you to indulge in this delightful experience with family or friends in our beautiful Van Stry Ballroom. Let all the luxury of castle life envelop you as you savour the wonderful delicacies your waiter has to offer.
Duchess of Cumberland Festive Afternoon Tea will be served on the below dates at 1 pm and 4 pm.
Sunday, 3rd December | Sunday, 10th December | Sunday, 17th December | Wednesday, 20th December
This year we have introduced a guided Castle tour which will take place 3.30 pm each day tea is served.
Duchess of Cumberland Festive Afternoon Tea - €70 per person
Champagne Afternoon Tea - €85 per person
Children’s Afternoon Tea - €30 which includes a soft drink of choice.
Duchess of Cumberland Festive Afternoon Tea
Luttrellstown Castle and its estates were held in the Luttrell family since the 13th Century until 1811 when the castle was sold to a wealthy bookseller, Luke White. Simon Luttrell inherited the castle and the estates of the family in 1717.
His daughter, Lady Anne, born in 1743 was noted for her stunning beauty and her enchanting eyes. Horace Walpole described her ‘with eyelashes half a yard long and a coquette beyond measure’. After a whirlwind romance, Anne married Christopher Horton in 1765 however he died in 1769. Although in mourning, Anne returned to high society where soon after, she met Prince Henry, Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn and brother of King George III. Prince Henry was mesmerised by Anne’s beauty, and they married in secret in Mayfair, London in 1771 and fled to Calais in France.
